Install RootWallet
Desktop
Download from the RootWallet releases page.
| OS | Package |
|---|---|
| macOS (Intel and Apple Silicon) | Universal .dmg |
| Linux x86-64 | .deb, .rpm, or .AppImage |
| Windows | None. The agent uses Unix domain sockets and kernel peer credentials, which Windows lacks. Use the CLI |
The macOS build is code-signed but not notarized: the first time, right-click the app and choose Open.
Auto-update is not working yet. The updater code exists, but releases do not publish the update manifest, so you update by downloading the new version.
Mobile
Mobile is in active development.
- +Android: download the APK from the RootWallet website (Obtainium is supported), or the Play internal track.
- +iOS: TestFlight.
- +The public App Store and Play Store listings are not live.
CLI
brew install DeBrosDAO/tap/rootwallet # macOS or Linux npm install -g @debros/root-cli # anywhere with Node 20.19 or newer
From source:
git clone https://github.com/DeBrosDAO/rootwallet.git cd rootwallet && pnpm install && pnpm --filter @debros/root-cli build
On Windows only the CLI runs, and there is no OS-keychain session, so each command asks for your password.
Where RootWallet keeps things
Everything is under ~/.rootwallet/:
| File | What |
|---|---|
keystore.json | The encrypted wallet |
vault.json | The encrypted vault |
agent.sock, agent.pid | The desktop agent's socket and pid |
agent-permissions.json | Programs you have approved to use the agent |
orama-device.json | The CLI's device key for Orama RPC sign-in (mode 0600) |
Each extra wallet ("RootID" in the apps, meaning only a local wallet profile) lives in its own folder under ~/.rootwallet/<rootId>/. A second encrypted backup of the keystore is kept in ~/Library/Application Support/RootWallet on macOS or $XDG_DATA_HOME/rootwallet on Linux.
First run
rw init # create a wallet; writes down 12 words, then asks you to confirm 3 of them rw unlock # start a 30 minute session rw address # your address
Write the 12 words down on paper and keep them offline. Nobody, including the developers, can recover them for you. See Wallets and accounts.
